Tonight, Gm Sprackman made the first trade for the Islanders. In a deal with Montreal, Islanders shipped veteran center
Bryan Trottier to the Habs for prospect Kjellberg and a 2nd round pick in the 1991 draft. As Gm Sprackman stated, this is the start
of the rebuild on the Island.
"Looking at this team, we really need to focus on bring in prospects and picks to build this team. We look forward to trying hard to
add pieces we think will help the team in 2 or 3 seasons. We know there is a lot of work to do and we may not be very competitive
for a few seasons but we know the fans understand what we are trying to do." Gm Sprackman said today at the practice center.
"I have other talks on going and we could still see others moved in the near future. We are not looking to move Lafontaine or Healy
at this time, they are pieces that would be hard to replicate and they should be in their prime once the team is ready to compete.
If I can get more picks for some of the players, then we will be happy. Probably look for some young roster players too, to keep the
team competitive for this season."
Trottier was spotted at the arena, packing his things and getting ready to go to Montreal. He looked a little happier knowing he was going
to a team that has a chance to win and possibly get him another cup. When asked, he said all the right things and was gracious to the Islanders
for giving him a chance to play in New York.
"I enjoyed my time in New York and will miss being around the players but now I have a change to try and win another cup. I hope
to bring a veteran presence to the Habs and look forward to playing in Montreal. It will be a change for me and my family and we are
ready for the next stage in our life." Trottier stated today.
With the first trade all done, Gm Sprackman will now focus on a few other players he like to move. Rumored to be on the block are players
like Crossman, Sutter and others.
What will happen in the next few days will shape the team for the future. We look forward to seeing what moves are made.
