We had FIVE teams that allowed their goalie to exceed the minutes limit this season and not by a little amount, ranging from 135 to 296 minutes over (2.25 to 4.93 games). Four of five are playoff teams, and those extra games impacted division titles and seeding. The fifth team just missed the playoffs due to losing a tie-breaker.
At this time, I proposed the following rule change to the goalie minutes:
No goalie will be allowed to play more than a total of 4,200 minutes during the regular season (regardless of how many teams the goalie has played for).
At the end of the regular season, if a goalie is over the limit, the team will be fined $5 million. In addition, the goalie will receive a league suspension of TWO games PLUS ONE game for every 30 minutes over the limit (rounded up).
Example: Ken Dryden plays 4,391 minutes - Suspension would be 9 games [2 + (191/30) = 8.37].
This suspension is immediate and will be served in the playoffs and/or carried over into the upcoming season. If the goalie retires, is traded or becomes a free agent before the suspension is complete, the team will be fined an additional $2 million for each suspension game remaining.
In addition, goalies over the limit are ineligible for any of the post season awards, e.g. Vezina, Calder, Hart, etc.
What do you think?

I'm down for enforcing some kind of penalty. Money is fine for sure but I would suggest that the suspension be 1 game for every 60min they are over (so game for game).
I also think the suspensions should start right away if discovered, and in the playoffs if discovered after the regular season.
Jordo is even on the naughty list for his goalie.

Yes Ive been not good at watching the goalie minute limits, just with everything I've had on the go lately it was another thing that slipped for me. I like this idea though, and I do like the idea of suspensions rolling into the playoffs (myself included moving forward of course) if ya dont pay enough attention.
I'd like more thoughts though, but I am leaning this way.

Additionally, I'm going to need help from someone who can pop me a message and say hey, these goalies are all over th elimit and need suspensions, or cap related things as we move forward.

I can do that, it's just a quick scan at the end of the season to determine who's over for the start of the playoffs.
